I’ve been rocking on Styrofoam again lately. I wanted to make some party jewelry for Halloween, so I came up with these fab Halloween cocktail rings made with Styrofoam balls.

They’re easy and fantastically fun to make (so agrees my daughter). We made a pumpkin version and we also made a mushroom cap style. These would be great as party favors!
A warning, it’s a glittery project and there will be glitter everywhere
(or is that just us?).

Supplies for Two Rings (one styrofoam ball makes two rings):
1 ball 1.5″ size (I bought a bag of these at the $1.00 in the craft dept)
26 gauge beading wire (or other thin, stiff wire you might have)
rings (can find something similar at Michaels or order from Beads Galore)
Folk Art Paint/Martha Stewart Paints both from Plaid
Green Pipe Cleaner
Craft Glue (we used Aleene’s)
Glitter (we used Martha Stewart Glitter)
Craft Knife
optional Toothpicks (this makes painting your foam so much easier)
optional Square Piece of Foam to Use as Drying Rack/Holder

Steps:
Cut your 1.5″ ball in half. Paint it orange, let it dry (some folks like to sprinkle the glitter right into the wet paint and cut a step and supplies, you can do this). Next apply craft glue and sprinkle glitter all over your painted piece. Again let dry.

Next, before adding the pumpkin stem, the jewelry wire is poked through the middle of the 1/2 ball (need at least 4″ of wire). Then make a small loop with the wire on the top side of your pumpkin, and stick it back in to the foam so it won’t come back through. Next a dab of glue and then push in the inch piece of green pipe cleaner (1 to 1 1/2″ piece should work) right on top of your wire loop. Bend your stem a little.

Let dry. Lastly take the wire and wrap it through the ring holes making sure that the foam gets tight up against the ring. I actually added a little glue on the underneath of the foam and shoved the ring into the foam for extra strength. The end of the wire gets poked up into the ring.
Make this into a mushroom ring too!
To cover the wire loop on the top of your mushroom, push it into the foam a little, then add glue and sprinkle a little more glitter. Let that dry and assemble just like the other ring.
